Hey guys! Sorry I haven’t posted during the first few days of this week. Everything has been piling up fast. I have essays to write, internships to apply for, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Last Friday I received my Birchbox UK, but I haven’t been able to get all the pictures taken and edited until now. Better late than never as they say. 🙂
This is an amazing haul this month! So excited about nearly everything.
The box came with a bag inside, as the UK boxes do. This month it had pretty orange accents. I really like this color. It’s like Birchbox knows me. 😀
The first product that I got to sample is the KMS California Hair Play Makeover Spray (dry shampoo). Can I just say that stuff smells amazing? I used to do theatre in high school, and we had this hair spray that everyone had to put on their hair before a show, and this stuff smells IDENTICAL to that hairspray. It takes me back. I haven’t used it enough to give you a full review. This is a pretty nice value at 4.50 GBP.
Next up, a product I already have. This is the Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips. I didn’t end up doing a post on my September US Birchbox, but I did get this in it. I did a video about it if you are curious about what I got that month. But anyway, I’m really hesitant to use it because of the name. I know that I shouldn’t let that sway me, but I just can’t use something called “nipple balm.” Why couldn’t they have just called it “lip balm” and wrote in the description on the back that it originated from their nipple balm. Blech. I feel so gross saying nipple balm. Okay, I’m done. I can’t anymore. Hahaha. But actually though, I probably won’t use this. I tried it and it is really thick (and then I wiped it off because it grossed me out LOL), so maybe I’ll try it on my cuticles. I dunno. We’ll see. The value of the sample is 2.30 GBP.
Again, another product I already have (had rather… I used it all up over the summer): theBalm Stainiac in Beauty Queen. I got this in my very first US Birchbox: June 2012. I can’t believe I’ve been with Birchbox so long. Anyway, I digress. This is a product that I don’t really like. I don’t find that it gives enough color to the skin. I feel like most of the pigment ends up on the finger you use to blend it in to the cheeks or lips. Also, I really don’t like the feeling of it on the lips when applying it. It is too…. slimy. Hahaha. I don’t know how else to explain it. 🙂 Anyway, I will probably figure out a way to use this up because I’m not going to let it go to waste. This sample is worth 1.33 GBP.
Two words: LAURA MERCIER. Yes. I got a sample of her foundation primer. I was beyond excited when I got this. I don’t buy high end products, and if I do it is usually something I sampled and got an amazing deal on. Needless to say, I’m pumped to try this out. I’ve used it once or twice already (and I totally forgot to wear it today under my Flower Tinted Moisturizer). I don’t think I have used it enough to give a review, but I am liking it so far. If nothing else, it is Laura Mercier, and I’ll feel fancy when using it. 😀 The value of this is 8.23 GBP!
Another amazing sample: Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant. I used this once and I really like it. It is a cream based product that you use on your face after cleansing. The exfoliating particles are pretty small, so it doesn’t feel grainy like the St Ives Apricot Scrubs. Like I said, I’ve only used it once, so I can’t speak to its ability to make skin look amazing. I have high hopes as it is a very expensive product. I’m afraid to like it for that reason, though. I don’t know if I can justify spending so much on it. It was sampled this month in the US boxes as well, so check out the Birchbox store for more information on price. The value of the sample is 3.38 GBP.
If this were a US box, that would be all. But no! I received a Beauty Extra: three (3!!!) packets of the Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream. Not to hate on the US boxes, but this would never happen. You would get one. Regardless of the foil packets, I’m excited to give these a go. You can apparently use it on your skin and hair, so I’ll try it both ways and let you know. The value of this “extra” is 2.66 GBP which is pretty great if you ask me.
Finally, I received a lifestyle extra: Chia Shots. You can supposedly put these in anything, and I keep meaning to put these in my yogurt (but now I’m out of granola so I can’t eat any more yogurt until I get some more granola. I can’t eat yogurt without granola. Don’t judge me. :P). I’ll probably end up tweeting about it when I try it (@sarasbeautyblog, if you were wondering). But yeah. Pretty cool stuff. The value of this is 0.48 GBP!
Overall, this was a very good box. I’m excited about nearly everything in it. The only thing I wouldn’t want is the Dr. Lipp product. Even though I don’t care for the Stainiac either, I don’t mind getting it, because I’m sure that a lot of people want to try it. The value of the box is 22.88 GBP. You end up paying. 12.50 or 12.95 (you have to pay for shipping and I can’t remember the price right now), so it is a great value. Overall, I’m really pleased. And, I’m excited for next month because they are sampling Laura Mercier again!!
What do you think of this box? Same question as last month: do you wish that BB US charged more in order to give a box similar to this or are you happy with the way things are?
All opinions are my own. No affiliate links. I’m not getting paid for this post, and I bought the Birchbox myself.
