NOTD: Julep America the Beautiful

Happy July…. 5th! πŸ™‚ I hope you all had a lovely holiday (for those of you in the U.S.). Anyway, I wanted to show you the manicure I was sporting for America’s birthday! Adequately named “America the Beautiful,” this is a polish I purchased in January. This was the perfect occasion to sport it. πŸ™‚

This is a photo of Julep America the Beautiful (although it does just say America on the bottle) over one coat of L’Oreal Caught Red-Handed. I only used one coat, because I was just looking for it to serve as a good base color, which it did. America the Beautiful is a glitter top coat. It has a clear base with fine red glitter, medium/large sized blue and silver glitter, and silver stars! I did find it tricky to locate the stars in the polish. I found it even trickier to place them on my nails in a manner that would allow them to stay stuck for a long period of time. I did one to two coats of it, depending on how I liked it. I found that one coat wasn’t quite enough and two coats was a bit too much.

I really love the look of this polish, but I have to stay that I have one thing that I really do not like about it: it chips! I’m talking serious chips. I put this on yesterday around 10 or 11 am. It’s almost 3 pm the next day and six of my nails have serious, noticeable chips (you can’t see my first finger in the photo which is a bummer since it has some major chips going on), three have not-so-noticeable-but-still-there chips, and the other finger is fine. I don’t know if it is a result of combining it with a top coat, or maybe I didn’t let it dry enough. I don’t know. I don’t think I did anything different, so I’m just confused.

Overall, I like it, but I don’t love it. It was perfect for the 4th of July, and I’ll probably use it again. However, it is definitely not a color you can sport for more than a day. I would love to see what it looks like over blue, silver, and white polish. I’m sure it would be equally gorgeous. I do recommend it if you are looking for a good topcoat.

Julep is actually running a deal right now until the end of July. If you purchase a “patriotic” polish (meaning from the Star-Spangled Sets category) and you use the code FIREWORKS, you can get the Fireworks glitter top coat for free. It is a glitter top coat with red, silver, and blue, medium/large sized glitter. I will not gain anything from you using this code. It is literally something I saw in my email and wanted to share with you. For more information, check out the website and/or contact Julep.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this. Have a great weekend! Let me know what your favorite patriotic manicure colors are!! πŸ™‚

I am not being paid for this post. All opinions are my own. I purchased this polish myself. I’m not affiliated with Julep nor have I used any affiliate links.

  1. It looks great under that red polish! Super cute! I bet white would be a really good base color too.
